Police averts Sikh-Sacha Sauda clash in Punjab village

Sangrur, May 24 (UNI) The Punjab Police today averted a clash between Sacha Sauda supporters and members of certain Sikh religious organisations at Batrukha village in the district.

Thirty three people belonging to both the groups were taken into custody and later arrested for violating section 144, police here said.

The incident occurred when some villagers tried to burn an effigy of Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Raheem Singh. The police also took the effigy into its possession.

Tension had gripped Dhanere Kalan village of Barnala district yesterday when a similar incident occurred. However, timely arrival of the police brought matters under control.
