PDP leader, CRPF jawan injured and hideout busted in Kashmir
Srinagar, May 24 (UNI) A leader of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan were injured in militant firing while security forces busted a hideout and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition in the Kashmir valley.
A police spokesman said militants attacked a CRPF patrol party near a railway track at Awantipora in south Kashmir district of Pulwama last night. The firing was returned and in the exchange of fire one CRPF jawan identified as Suraj Bhan was injured. Militants later managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
He said militants shot at and wounded Abdul Ahad Bhat, a local leader of PDP, a coalition partner in the government, at Yaripora.
He has been hospitalised.
Security forces busted a hideout at Baramulla and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition, including 26 UBGL grenades, five hand grenades, two wireless sets, 12 magazines and more than 300 rounds of ammunition. However, no one was arrested, he said.
