Obstacles in implementation of NREGA in J'khand: Council

Ranchi, May 24 (UNI) A delegation of Central Employement Gurantee Council(CEGC) after assessing the status to National Rural Gurantee Act (NREGA) in Ranchi and few other places today called on Chief Minister Madhu Koda and apprised him about the obstacles facing in the implementation of the Act.

Council's members Mr Jean Dreze, Ms Aruna Roy and Annie Raza in a joint news conference said the Act was not being properely implemneted due to shortage of government staff and awareness among the people on the subject. They said they came to know this after conducting a week-long audit between May 14 and 20.

Mr Dreze said the main hindrances were the exploitative work nature, delay in wage payments and lack of monitoring system and added the government should take steps to sortout the problems.

They said a report in this regard would be submitted later.

The chief minister had also assured them to do the needful for proper implementation of the Act, they said.
