Notorious criminal injured in encounter with police

Darbhanga, May 24 (UNI) Notorious criminal and extortionist Raju Kalia was seriously injured in an encounter with the police near the AIR office here today.

District Deputy Superintendent of police Perwaiz Akhter said the encounter followed when police were called to prevent Raju and his accomplice from extorting money from a local businessman. Seeing policemen they attacked and in retaliation the security force fired at them seriously injuring the criminal. He was later admitted to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital, the DSP said.

Two country-made pistols, eight cartridges, one cell phone and a motorbike were recovered from him.

Meanwhile, raids were being conducted to nab the other criminal, who fled during the encounter.
