Pondy: Muncipality employees strike to press demands

Puducherry, May 24: About 1500 employees of the Puducherry Municipality and Commune Panchayat today resorted to a sit-in strike to press their demands.

They were demanding, among other things, to convert them as government employees and provision of Assured Career Progression (ACP) scheme with effect from August 1999 after amending the recruitment rules, which were agreed upon by Minister Malladi Krishna Rao and Director, Local administration department Mr Vallavan.

Meanwhile, employees of the Krishi Vigayan Kendra (KVK) affiliated to the CITU observed a fast in front of their office, demanding the filling of all vacant posts and raising of medical allowance to Rs 1,500.
