Lucknow, May 24 (UNI) Dealing a severe blow to the Anil Ambani-led Reliance group as well as to the previous Mulayam Singh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Mayawati today asked the Centre to scrap the group's proposed Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Noida as the project was not ''contiguous.'' The state government also constituted a high level committee headed by Industrial Development Commissioner (IDC) and asked it to submit a report within two weeks on each and every proposal of the previous government on hi-tech cities, SEZs and other IT projects.

In another major decision, the government ordered that henceforth the government will not acquire land for any project and the investors would have to deal with the land owners or farmers to purchase their land.

The state cabinet, chaired by Ms Mayawati, before reaching the decision discussed the lapses in allotting the 1,200 acre of land to Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) at Noida.

Though the project is yet to get the Centre's approval, the Mayawati government decided to go ahead with its recommendation to scrap the deal for ''breaching the rule.'' Briefing mediapersons, state cabinet secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh said as per the rule SEZ can only be established on a piece of land having one entry and one exit point.

''But in the case of Reliance SEZ it was found that it was two pieces of land with a road dividing both the plots to be used for the purpose,'' he said adding that it was against the norms.

A high level committee had found the lapses and hence the government has decided to recommend to the Centre scrapping the SEZ, he added.

On August 17 last year the Noida Authority Board had invited bids for the project.

According to sources, the land was to be given to Reliance group on lease where Reliance One World Ltd was to set up its multi-product economic zone, which had also received the approval of the Noida Authority Board.

On August 22, a consortium of Reliance One World Ltd, Reliance Energy Ltd and Reliance Infocomm Infrastructure Pvt Ltd. submitted a proposal for setting up a multi-product economic zone in Noida.

The Noida Board Authority on September 1 accepted the proposal with some modifications and forwarded it for government approval which came in just 10 days.

Meanwhile, the decision to refrain from acquiring land for any project was taken in the wake of the farmers' agitation over Dadri power project of the Reliance for which land was alloted to Anil Ambani group during the previous regime in UP, Mr Singh added.
