Letter threatening to blow up JMC building a prank: police
Jalgaon, Maharashtra, May 24 (UNI) The letter allegedly sent by Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) to the District Collectorate here on May 22, threatening to blow up the 17-storeyed Jalgaon Municipal Corporation (JMC) building and other commercial establishments today, was nothing but a prank, police said.
Talking to UNI this evening, Additional Deputy Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dilip Sawant said that after receiving the letter, he had called a meeting of all police officials yesterday and heightened the vigil around the civic headquarters and other commercial establishments.
Around 300 policemen, striking force, riot control squad were deployed. A bomb disposal squad was even summoned from Aurangabad, he said.
He the security was increased at the JMC, making checking mandatory for everyone, Mr Sawant added.
Describing the threat as a prank by somebody, Mr Sawant said because of this joke they have become aware of their roles during such an eventuality and are prepared to tackle one in case it arises.
