HP University VC for introduction of vocational courses

Shimla, May 24 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh University (PHU) Vice Chancellor Anil Wilson today emphasised on the need for the introduction of vocational courses in the university.

Adderessing the fifty fifth Academic Council meeting here, he said the demand for vocational programmes in the rapidly changing academic scenario must be met to satisfy the functional need of the society.

Dr Wilson said classical education was important for the moral and ethical survival of the civil society.

The council also discussed the upgradation of syllabus as recommended by the faculties of social science, besides introduction of life science and visual Microbiology, Law and Biotechnology, he said.

The syllabus for add-on courses in Floriculture, Mushroom Cultivation and Agriculture was also approved in the meeting.

The Council also deliberated upon the need to make the examination system less stressful and dependent.

To make it more student friendly, the academic council also decided to introduce internal assessment system that would comprise 20 per cent of total marks in each paper and 15 per cent marks on the basis of house examination and five per cent attendance record.
