HC directs govt to dispose off sanction for prosecution cases
Patna, May 24 (UNI) Patna High Court today directed the Bihar government to dispose off the sanction of prosecution cases against high ranking officers by July 24.
The court also directed the state government to ensure expeditious investigation of criminal cases pending against 20 police officers in state vigilance and file status report by August 2.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice J N Bhatt and Justice S K Sinha passed the order after hearing the petition filed by the Indian Medical Association(IMA).
Earlier, the government counsel informed the court that 222 criminal cases were pending against the high ranking officers.Of which 46 petitions for sanction of prosecution were pending for long at different levels.
Moreover, the state police counsel submitted before the court that 20 criminal cases were pending against various police officers and all were being investigated.
The IMA had filed a Public Interest Litigation in Patna High Court in 2004 seeking directive to the state government to improve the law and order situation and also take measures to check the rising criminal attacks on doctors.
