Alleged suicide attempt by Congress MPs wife in Bengal

Berhampore, May 24 (UNI) Congress MP Adhir Chowdhury's wife Arpita Chowdhury was battling for life after allegedly trying to commit suicide the last night.

Police here said, Ms Chowdhury was admitted to a nursing home, where her condition was stated to be critical after she consumed hard dose of sleeping pills.

Mr Chowdhury, representing the Berhampore Lok Sabha constituency, was acquitted of charges in a double murder case by a district court two days back.

He was arrested from his Delhi residence on November 19, 2005, after Murshidabad Chief Judicial Magistrate A K Pal issued an arrest warrant against him and his wife on October 18.

Ms Chowdhury was released on bail by Calcutta High Court.
