Chennai, May 23 (UNI) Janata Party President Subramaian Swamy today urged the DMK government to withraw the Sankararaman murder case against Kanchi Acharyas, in view of the dismissal of the investigating officer in the case and Superintendent of Police K Premkumar from service.

In a statement here, he said as the government had sacked Mr Premkumar, who handled the murder case, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi should withdraw the case against the Acharyas forthwith.

He said the dismissal of the police officer was a welcome move as he had notoriously handled the murder case and ''crassly and crudely'' framed the Kanchi Acharyas and other mutt officials as accused in the case.

''So violative of the due process of law in the handling of this murder case that the Supreme Court had to observe in a hearing of bail applications that the police case lacks prima facie validity,'' Dr Swamy said.

The dismissal of Mr Premkumar from service should make former Chief Minister and the AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa introspect and make amends for fully backing a police officer, he said.
