TN CM presents cash awards to meritorius students

Chennai, May 23 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today presented cash awards to six students who secured the first three places at the state-level in the Higher secondary examinations, results of which were declared recently.

DAV students S Ramya and D Rubika who secured the first two state level ranks were given cash awards of Rs 15,000 and Rs 12,000, respectively, according to an official press release here.

Four other students who secured third place, were given Rs 10,000 each, the release said.

Besides the cash awards, Mr Karunanidhi also distributed certificates to the students. The government would bear their full educational expenses when they opted for any professional course in any educational institution.

The scheme of government bearing the educational expenses of state and district level meritorious students was launched by the previous DMK regime in 1996.

The students who thanked the Chief Minister after receiving the cash awards and certificates, hailed the scheme, which benefited 100 students every year.

Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu, School Education Secretary Kutralingam and School Education Director R Kannan were among others present on the occasion.
