Rs 1.30 cr in fine collected from traders using banned plastic bags
Mumbai, May 23 (UNI) The BMC has collected more than Rs 1.30 crore in fine during the last couple of monhs from vendors and shop keepers who have been found using the banned plastic bags.
Since March 13 this year, the BMC staff have come across 15,454 cases of shop-keepers and vendors using the banned bags.
In a joint press conference today, Municipal Commissioner J Pathak and additional commissioners Kalam Patil and Shrikant Singh said the civic body was continuing with its raids. Two godowns in Borivali were closed down after they were found storing and using plastic bags less than 50 microns thick.
