Kerala: Remand prisoner dies in hospital

Kozhikode, May 23: A remand prisoner, undergoing trial in connection with an Abkari case, was found dead in Kozhikode Medical College Hospital early today.

Police and hospital sources said Balan (30), a resident of Chempakasseri in Kasargod district, was shifted to the hospital from Kannur Central Jail on May 21.

He died of natural cause around 0630 hrs, police said quoting preliminary inquest.

However, the exact reason would be known only after the post-mortem, they said.

Since the accused died in custody a magisterial inquiry would also be held in the case, police added.
