Orissa to launch Biju Gramya Jyoti Yojana
Bhubaneswar, May 23 (UNI) After the Biju KBK Yojana and Gopabandhu Gramina Yojana, the Orissa government today decided to launch the Biju Gramya Jyoti Yojana(BGJY) to provide electricity connection to rural villages.
A high level meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, decided to implement the BGJY in 10,000 villages during the 11th Five year plan with an investment of Rs 1000 crore from the state funding.
Official sources said the villages left out under the Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Bidyut Yojana would be covered under the scheme for which a detailed project report had been prepared.
The District Collectors would be entrusted with implementing the programmes in their respective districts and steps would also be taken under the BGJY to strengthen the power infrastructure in the state.
The meeting was attended by State Energy Minister S N Patra, Chief Secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy, Development Commissioner Rabi Narayan Bohidar and Principal Secretaries of Finance and Energy Departments, among others.
