Lawyers submit deputation against police high handedness

Bongaon, May 23 (UNI) Members of the Bongaon Bar Association and a local Lawyers' Association today jointly submitted a memorandum before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate in protest against police high handedness within court premises.

The memorandum was submitted before the ACJM Asha Auroa for forcibly taking ''surrendering accused'' into custody from the court.

Earlier, an open convention of leaders here at the Sub-divisional court complex of both the legal bodies expressed concern over unwarranted police action at the court premises when any accused was visiting the court for surrender himself or herself before the judicial magistrate.

They claimed that police had no right to take any person into their custody without permission from the court authorities. The convention virtually suspended normal functioning of the court when more than a 100 lawyers joined the convention and stayed away from court today.

The deputation, led by the office-bearers of both the associations, alleged that police had prevented at least five such people to surrender before the magistrate and took them into custody registering under false charges against the accused.

The Additional Chief Judicial Magustrate, however, assured the lawyers that necessary action would be taken in this respect.
