Srinagar, May 23 (UNI) Concerned over the fading interior work on roofs of Baradaris in the famed Mughal gardens on the bank of Dal Lake, Jammu and Kashmir Governor S K Sinha said he would take up the matter with Indian National Trust for Art, Culture and Heritage (INTACH).

During his visit to gardens, constructed by Mughal king Jehangir, General Sinha took keen interest in the architectural grandeur of the Baradaris and well laid gardens.

He stressed the need for doing up the fading interior work on roofs in tune with original art work. However, on being told by the Director Floriculture about the handicap on account of artisans, General Sinha said that he would take up the issue with Chairman Indian National Trust for Art, Culture and Heritage (INTAC) for well experienced workers to do the job.

The Governor also suggested setting up of musical fountain in Shalimar Garden for giving a vivid account of historical importance of Mughal Gardens and other destinations of tourist attraction.

He said Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board was getting a musical fountain installed in Katra, for which an arrangement had been worked out with a British consortium.

He said the Valley of Kashmir had much to showcase to nature lovers, who had been craving to pay a visit to this paradise on earth once in lifetime.

The Governor also interacted with the tourists in Nishat and Shalimar Gardens. He exuded confidence that the tourist influx would increase with fast changing scenario in the Valley and infrastructure being raised for their comfort.

Later, the Governor visited the Tulip Garden adjoining the Botanical Gardens in the lap of Zaberwan Hills. He was given a presentation on the development of this unique garden which became a house hold name and hit the headlines around the country over a month ago.

Later,in an informal interaction with officers in lush green environs, the Governor gave the historical perspective of these gardens.

He said the first Mughal Garden had been laid by Babbar in Agra, as per the description by Mrs Moynihan, wife of the American Ambassador in India. She had conducted research and investigations for years and the place was excavated under a cowshed.

He described the Mughal Gardens in Srinagar as the precious gift of Jehangir to this beautiful valley.
