HC scraps promotion list of sub inspectors

Lucknow, May 23 (UNI) The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court today scrapped the selection list of November 11, 2006, whereby Uttar Pradesh constables and head constables were promoted as sub inspector, after a departmental examination.

Hearing petitions filed by constable Mamta Yadav and others, the one judge bench comprising Justice Devi Prasad Singh directed the Uttar Pradesh government for a fresh selection process in this regard.

The state government has been asked to initiate a selection process from the interview level under a Selection Board, which should be completed within three months.

Besides, all the SI level posts to be filled through such promotions should be filled within four months, the bench noted.

The petitioners had alleged the list of promoted policemen, also included names of some policemen, who were either dead or had criminal cases pending against them.
