Fitness board to be strengthened: J
Srinagar, May 23 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government will soon strengthen the transport department's fitness board so that vehicles are issued certificates in an expeditious and transparent manner.
State Transport Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen told a meeting here that the fitness board would be strengthened so as to expedite the process of issuance of fitness certificates in a transparent manner in the state.
He said the state government was committed to providing safe and comfortable passenger service to the commuters and several steps have been taken so far in this regard. More bus stops would be identified in Srinagar, especially in the Civil Lines area, to avoid frequent traffic snarls.
The Minister directed the authorities to ensure that drivers as well as conductors wear 'khaki' or Grey uniforms. After next 15 days, action would be taken against those who would not wear the prescribed uniforms, he added.
Hakeem Yaseen directed the Regional Transport Officer, Kashmir, to streamline the process of depositing token tax and other dues so that transporters do not face any problem in doing so.
He said the government has proposed to develop and renovate all bus stands across the state with latest facilities and directed the transporters to operate additional services during peak hours to meet the rush of students and employees.
