Congress calls for 'Saurashtra bandh' tomorrow

Rajkot, May 23 (UNI) The Gujarat Congress has called a ''Saurashtra Bandh'' tomorrow to protest against the State Government's ''failure in protecting the lives of common people'' and the ''deteriorating law and order situation''.

The Congress has called the ''bandh'' in view of the rape of a girl and the murder of another on the outskirts of Junagadh city on May 13, and the failure of the police to arrest the two culprits involved in the crime.

''The common man, and particularly women, are unsafe under the present BJP regime,'' Congress city President Jaswant Bhatti said while speaking to reporters here today.

Members of the Koli community have been protesting against the incident in Junagadh and their protests had taken a violent turn yesterday when an irate mob had set four State Transport Corporation buses ablaze.
