Centre to introduce Social Security Bill: Oscar

Mangalore, May 23: The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government will introduce the Social Security Bill, intended to improve the living conditions of the labours engaged in un-organised sector, during the next parliament session, Union Minister of State for Labour Oscar Fernandes said.

He said that the Bill, which could not be moved in the last session, would be introduced in the next session after placing before the cabinet.

Mr Fernandes said that skyracketing of the prices of essential commodities was a matter of concern for the UPA government which had initiated pro-active measures to check inflation. " The efforts to curb the increase in the prices were yielding results" he claimed.

Replying to question, Mr Fernandes, said that Congress Candidate would emerge victorious in the June-2 Ullal byelection as party was receiving overwhelming response from the electorate.

Mr Fernandes clarified that former Deputy Chief Minister S Sidharamaiah has not expressed any grouse in the party and reports appearing in section of media were far from truth. "Mr Sidharamaiah was here to campaign for the party candidate in the byelection and will talk to him if necessary", he added.
