Agriculture Extension Service Award to Guj govt

Gandhinagar, May 23 (UNI) Indian government's National Productivity Council will confer its Agriculture Extension Services Award for this year to Gujarat at a function in Delhi tomorrow.

According to State Agricultural Minister Bhupendrasingh Chudasma, ''The State has bagged the award consistently for third year.'' ''The credit of this award goes to the successful implementation of water conservation and agriculture schemes launched by Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Compared to country's agricultural development rate of two per cent, Gujarat has registered its growth at 12.36 percent,'' said Mr Chudasma.

''The rate of agricultural produce has increased manyfold in the past few years. Gujarat is leading in the country in terms of agricultural produce like cotton, caster oil, isabgul and onion.

With regard to water conservation, the government has built more than 85,000 check dams and dug two lakh ponds,'' he said.
