5 kg opium, 450 gm heroin seized from drug peddler

Chandigarh, May 23 (UNI) Continuing its anti-drug campaign, the Haryana Police has seized five kg opium and 450 gm heroin from a drug peddler who was nabbed in Sirsa district, police said today.

Police received a tip off and recovered the opium and the heroin from Surender Singh of Dhani Barecha village in Sirsa district during a search operation, a police spokesman here said.

He said a case had been registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at city police station, Sirsa.

The accused had been arrested earlier also in other cases of drugs smuggling, he added.

The spokesman said in another case, the police arrested a woman, identified as Sonia of Begusarai district of Bihar, carrying 7.2 kg of Ganja in Sirsa.

He said that after arresting the accused from Old Truck Union area, the police registered a case under the NDPS Act.
