40 lakh children covered in pulse polio campaign in Haryana

Chandigarh, May 23 (UNI) More than 40 lakh children below the age of five years have been covered in Haryana under the 3-day pulse polio round which concluded last evening.

While stating this today, Health Minister, Mrs Kartar Devi said that district Mewat has recorded a commendable booth coverage of 77.44 per cent on first day of the campaign.

She said that with a view to ensure quality immunization coverage, 15,630 booths were setup in the state and these were manned by about 62,500 trained health officials, volunteers, Anganwadi Workers and Accredited Social Health Activists ASHAs).

Apart from nodal officers from the State headquarters and independent monitors of Pt B D Sharma Post-graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak, about 3,100 officials supervised the campaign.

Before launching this campaign, she said,an awareness campaign was also launched through print media and electronic media and other such means of communication.

She said that special attention was paid to those residing in slums, far-flung areas, isolated hutments, brick kilns and also the floating population.

She said that the successful implementation of pulse polio campaign has been possible due to the earnest efforts of the district administration and support of various departments of the Government.
