354 Haryana girl students given cash awards

Chandigarh, May 23 (UNI) As many as 354 girl students of Haryana benefitted under the 'Awards to Rural Adolescent Girls' scheme during the last financial year.

This scheme was launched so as to encourage girls to pursue higher education.

While stating this here today, a spokesman of the Haryana Women and Child Development Department said under this scheme cash awards of Rs 2000, Rs 1500 and Rs 1000 are given to girls from each block who secure first three positions in the matriculation examination of the Haryana School Education Board.

He said a sum of Rs 5.35 lakh has been earmarked for the implementation of the scheme during the current financial year.
