3-day-old baby mauled to death by stray dog

Kottayam, May 23: In a gruesome incident, a new born infant was mauled by a stray dog at Manarcadu here yesterday.

According to the police, the local people in the area found the body of the baby being dragged by the dog.

The postmortem revealed that the body was of a three-day-old baby girl, the sources said, adding the baby was suffocated to death immediately after its birth.

It was suspected that the baby might have been abandoned by somebody immediately after its delivery, in the nearby rubber estate, in a plastic bag after murdering it.

Though police had made thorough search in the nearby hospitals and houses, no information about the mother and the baby could be traced, it added.
