234 buildings in dilapidated state in Mumbai

Mumbai, May 23 (UNI) The Brihannumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has listed 234 non cess buildings as dilapidated ones, after three consultants carried out surveys in various parts of the city.

The surveys were carried out by IIT, VJTI and Sardar Patel College in the city's Eastern and Western suburbs.

Out of the 234 buildings, 89 buildings are in the city, of which 36 are BMC-owned and 53 are private. The Eastern suburb has 83 dilapidated buildings out of which 14 are BMC-owned and 69 are privately-owned.

The survey in the Eastern suburb was conducted in two phases. In the first phase 41 buildings were earmarked as dilapidated and in the second phase 42 buildings were earmarked for the same.

Sardar Patel college that carried out the survey in the Western suburb, in its first phase earmarked 31 buildings as dilapidated out of which one is private and 30 buildings are BMC-owned. In the second phase 31 buildings were earmarked as dilapidated with one being private and 30 in the BMC category.

While addressing media persons here today, BMC Commissioner Jairaj Pathak said out of 234 buildings, 16 have been demolished by the BMC and 6 have been partially demolished. He also said 5 buildings have been demolished by the owners and 2 have been partially demolished by the owners.
