1000 more policemen for Jun 2 Ullal bypoll: ADGP

Mangalore, May 23 (UNI) More than 1000 additional police personnel would be deployed for the of byelection to Ullal Assembly seat on June Two, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Shankar Bidari said today.

Talking to newsmen here, he said already five platoons of State Reserve Police have been deployed and four companies of Central Police Force were expected to arrive on May 27.

Of a total of 140 booths in the constituency coming under six policeman limits, 56 booths had been identified as hyper sensitive and 70 as sensitive.

In each booth, there would be at least one armed policemen and one central police. In the hyper sensitive booth, there would be one ASI or Head Constable (HC) and four police constables (PC) in which at least one would be fully armed and one would be from Central police force.

The sensitive booths would be looked after by one HC and three PCs while in general booth one HC and Two PCs each would be deployed.

In view of the sensitiveness of the constituency, 25 mobile police squads would be on duty -- one each for six booths. Besides, seven special striking police forces would be deployed on duty and each would help in ensuring law and order in 24 booths.

Replying to a question on the comment made by the KPCC-I Chief Mallikarjun Kharge that the party was not having confidence in the local police and the plea to the Election Commission to deploy outside police, Mr Bidari said the local police were efficient enough to discharge the duty impartially and no political party need to have any doubts on partiality.

He said two cases of assault had been registered yesterday in Ullal and the police were investigating. Action would be taken against the guilty.
