No slackness in backing IT companies in Karnataka: Kumaraswamy

Bangalore, May 22 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has asserted that the state will continue to back the IT and BPO industry by providing it with complete support.

Speaking at the launch of the 10th edition of BangaloreIT.in-2007 which begins on October 29 here last night, he said Karnataka, especially the Bangalore city had been the home for major IT giants in the world and the state government was committed to extend full support for the existing and the new players who want to come here to set up their units.

"We are doing our best to improve the physical infrastructure to enable these companies to work in conducive environment. We welcome IT companies, especially those in semiconductor field, to tier II and III cities like Mysore, Mangalore, Gulbarga, Hubli-Dharwad and Hassan. You will get extra benefits if you set up units in these cities," he said.

The state government had a special package for the semiconductor industry and they could also avail the Union governments incentives, he said.

He said Karnataka had maintained its pre-eminent position, Karnataka notched up a 33 per cent growth in its software exports in the Fiscal 2007, touching 11.3 billion US Dollars. Last year it had software exports to the tune of 8.5 billion dollars. IT industry had provided direct employment to four lakh people, he said.
