Defunct Indira Point Lighthouse RACON repaired
Port Blair, May 22 (UNI) The tsunami-ravaged lighthouse, RACON, situated at Indira Point of Great Nicobar Island, has been repaired by officials of the Lighthouse and Light Ship (LH&LS) Department with the help of the Indian Coast Guard(ICG).
RACON, situated at the southern end of Indian territory, is partially submerged in the sea since the 2004 tsunami.
Official sources here said that a few months ago, RACON became non-functional. Efforts were made by the Directorate of Lighthouses and Lightships, Port Blair with Department Tender vessel 'M V Pradeep'.
LH&LS officials finally succeeded in carrying out the rectification and RACON was recently made serviceable.
