Torrent Power to buy power generation equipment from Korea

Ahmedabad, May 21 (UNI) Torrent Power is in touch with Korean companies for supply of electrical equipment for their upcoming Power generation projects in Gujarat.

''We have discussed the issue of supply electrical equipment with some companies'' Mr Sudhir Mehta, Chairman of Torrent group, said.

He admitted that Korean electrical equipment suppliers are competitive in ''pricing'' and will help his companies in reducing the generation costs.

The discussion between Korean companies and Torrent group took place during the visit of a high level business delegation, headed by Chief Minister Narendra Modi from May 15 to 19.

Mr D Rajgopal, Principal Secretary, Industry and Mines, said the the visit was extremely successful in terms of achieving the objective of creating awareness about Gujarat. Korean companies have also shown interest in Kalpasar project and a MOU was signed between Korea Rural Community and Agriculture Corporation (KRC) and GSFC and Gujarat Green Revolution Company (GGRC) with an object to closely work in the area of agriculture development in the state.

The Delegation also visited the Seamangeum project, similar to the proposed Kalpsar project in whcih 33 KMs lng dyke was constructed across the sea.

Mr Rajgopal said Korean small and medimum companies were keen to set up industrial units in Gujarat and the delegation has appraised them about the infrastrcture available in the state.

Gujarat has also shown its interest in developing maritime industries in Gujarat. Korean Maritime University has also shown interest in setting up a university in the state to develop human resources.
