Dr Raul was speaking to mediapersons after returning from an official visit to New York. She was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Vidya Thakur and Additional Municipal Commissioner (AMC) R A Rajeev where they attended the second C-40 summit that dwelt on climate and effects of global warming on earth.
She said, ''The concept of using plastic to construct roads was implemented in Western countries and will soon the adopted in the metropolis.'' The roads made by plastic are supposed to be more durable and stronger than usual ones and it will be beneficial to Mumbai as it is a marshy place.
During the summit, Clinton Foundation had organised a session called 'Clinton Climate Initiative' where eco-housing project was discussed, Dr Raul said.
''The eco-housing project will be implemented in the city after it is discussed in the House. A part of the project will be voluntary and others will be made compulsory,'' she said.
The eco-housing project would include utilization of solar energy, composting of garbage and rain water harvesting.
While on her visit to New York, Dr Raul said, she had seen the methane energy project and was very much impressed by it and said it will soon be implemented in the city.
The methane gas is perpared by keeping the garbage in a pit. It is then compressed by covering and after some time the gas is emitted. Dr Raul further added that the land used for preparation of the gas is not damaged in any way and it is beautified after the gas is prepared.
