Rich tributes paid to Rajiv Gandhi in Haryana

Chandigarh, May 21 (UNI) AICC General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi today said former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was an embodiment of simplicity and a staunch supporter of value-based politics.

''He had special love and affection for people, especially the poor,'' Mr Dwivedi, who is also the incharge Haryana affairs, said at a state-level function organised by Haryana Khet Kisan Mazdoor Congress at Sonepat on the 18th death anniversary of Mr Gandhi.

Mr Gandhi, he said, was a great visionary and it was his farsightedness that helped the nation to march towards era of Information Technology in 21st century.

On this occasion, Mr Dwivedi distributed 1250 sewing machines among the widows and women belonging economically weaker section.

All India Kisan Khet Mazdoor Congress President Shamsher Singh Surejewala said Mr Gandhi took a number of steps for the empowerment of women.

The late leader was also credited with opening the Krishi Gyan Kendras in villages so that latest agriculture technology could be adopted by the farmers.

Haryana Congress working President Ram Parkash said the late leader was devoted to make India a developed nation and tried his best to bring harmony in the society.

Transport Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said the Haryana government was committed to realise the dreams Mr Gandhi had seen and had started a number of ambitious schemes for all sections of society.
