Karnataka records 11.3 billion dollar softwar exports in 2006-07

Bangalore, May 21 (UNI) Maintaining its pre-eminent position, Karnataka notched up a 33 per cent growth in its software exports in the Fiscal 2007, touching 11.3 billion US Dollars.

Last year it had software exports to the tune of 8.5 billion dollars.

Giving out the details at the launch of Bangalore IT.in 2007, which would be held here from October 29 to November two, Software Technology Park of India (STPI)-Bangalore Director J Parthasarathy said hardware exports from the State was at Rs. 2950 crore.

The State had attracted an investment of Rs.3000 crore during the year, with a little less than half of it coming from major expansion programmes of 1900 existing companies.

Significantly, nine of the new MNC entrants out of the total new companies of 162 were one billion dollar companies. Another important achievement had been seven Japanese companies setting shop, Mr Parthasarathy said.

Country's total software exports last year was Rs.130,000 crore as against Rs.109,000 crore the previous year.

While the bulk of Rs.48,700 Crore exports came from Bangalore, Tier two cities contributed over Rs.1000 crore in exports he added.

Mysore which started late when compared to Mangalore became the second major destination with software exports crossing Rs.760 crore, up by 94 per cent, overtaking Mangalore which finished last year with an export of Rs.681.45 crore (last year Rs.570 Crore.

Hubli lagged a poor third among the tier two cities with an export figure of Rs.8.5 crore.
