Junagadh observes bandh over murder, rape of teenaged girls
Junagadh, May 21 (UNI) A bandh call given by Junagadh-based social group Survanshi over the alleged rape and murder of two teenaged girls, evoked a partial response today.
Barring stray incidents of forcible closure of shops and stone pelting on passing vehicles from Vanzani and Azad chowk area, the bandh was by and large peaceful, police said.
However, bus service, government offices, commercial organisations, hospitals and banks functioned as usual, they said.
The bandh was called to protest the failure of the Junagadh police in arresting two persons - Mohan Hamir and Ramesh alias Bhad - accused of allegedly murdering and raping two teenaged girls.
The girls, who separated from their family when they had gone to visit the Datar shrine in Junagadh, were abducted and raped by the two accused perons in the nearby forests on May 13, sources added.
Police sources said they were combing Datar hills forest area where the alleged accused Hamir and Bhad were hiding.
