JD(U) urges EC to ban individual advertisement by candidates
New Delhi, May 21 (UNI) The Janata Dal (United) today urged the Election Commission to put a ban on individual advertisements by candidates during elections as it would help them consolidate their vote banks without accoutablity and create confusion among voters.
The media is the only beneficiary in this process, JD(U) party General Secretary Arun Kumar Srivastava said, adding the ban would also help curb the use of money power by candidates.
Addressing newspersons here, Mr Srivastava felt the EC should conduct an inquiry into all the advertisements issued by individual candidates during the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, and find out the truth behind the claims.
He said the political parties are the right organisations which should be allowed to issue advertisements in favour of their candidates. However, in that case the cost should be added to the candidates poll expenses, he added.
He also lauded the Election Commission for conducting a smooth and violence-free election in Uttar Pradesh.
