India Today's MP Bureau Chief injured in police attack

Bhopal, May 21 (UNI) Hindi magazine India Today's Madhya Pradesh Bureau Chief Ambreesh Mishra and his friend were seriously injured when they were beaten up by police and anti-social elements at Alkapuri area in the state capital last night, police said today.

Police constable Mahendra Pathak, hostel director Brajesh Shukla and hostel employee Abhay Ojha were arrested today in this connection. A case of attempt to murder had been registered against the accused.

Meanwhile, Director General of Police A R Pawar visited Mr Mishra at a hospital to enquire about his health.

According to Mr Mishra's relatives, Mr Mishra was going along with his family to meet someone at Bag Sevania area when he had an argument with some anti-social elements, who were standing outside a girls hostel.

On being informed by the hostel's guard, some people reached on the spot in vehicles. Soon after, a police jeep arrived.

The relatives claimed that police started beating Mr Mishra and his friend Praveen Singh with sticks on the directions of the hostel director and employees. Both were seriously injured and admitted to J P Hospital here.
