HC denies Mallya relief in FERA violation case

New Delhi, May 21 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today dismissed the petition of liquor baron and Rajya Sabha member Vijay Mallya seeking relief in criminal proceedings in a trial court.

The trial court had ordered the charges to be framed against him for wilful disobedience of a summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seven years ago.

Justice S Ravinder Bhat dismissed Mallya's petition challenging the trial court order. The ED claimed to have summoned Mallya four times in September 1999.

They wanted to interrogate him in connection with a Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) violation case.

However, Mallya allegedly made excuses on three occasions and refused to accept the fourth summons. The ED filed a complaint case before a Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court accusing him of disobeying their summonses.

Later in 2001, the court got the charges framed against Mallya for the offence committed by him under FERA.
