Guv inaugurates Telemedicine Centre at Central Referral Hospital
Gangtok, May 21 (UNI) Sikkim Governor V.Rama Rao today inaugurated the telemedicine facility linking Central Referral Hospital(CRH) attached with the Manipal Hospital here with Manipal Hospital, Bangalore.
This is the first time that such a facility was set up in the state.
During the inauguration, two CRH patients were examined over the telecommunication data link through VSAT by Dr.Anil Bhatt, head of cardiology department, Manipal hospital, Bangalore.
Set up with the assistance of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), the telemedicine facility at CRH is expected to function continually in providing tele-consultation in all super specialities area through VSAT network, as also facilitate Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes.
Later at another function, India Development Fund and Indian Development Financial Corporation private equity fund limited presented a cheque of Rs.120 crores to the governor, who is also the chancellor of the Sikkim Manipal University (SMU).
Mr.Lui Merinda, Investment Manager to India of the organization presented the cheque after an agreement signed today between SMU and Manipal Universal Learning group. It is an investment in SMU towards distance education for higher studies in health care. Bijay Kumar from SMU and Anandan Sudrashan from Manipal Universal Learning signed the agreement.
The governor said this step will be a big relief for the SMU students. Sikkim will get quality education and it will do better in health care education, he said.
Dr.Ramadas Pai, president of Manipal Group also expressed similar views.
