New Delhi, May 21 (UNI) The CPI today demanded of the UPA government, which completes three years in office, to reverse its anti-people economic policies and speed up implementation of progressive legislations like the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, RTI and Tribal Forest Rights Acts among others.

The Left party also urged the government to accord top priority to contain price rise and inflation. It said the Manmohan Singh government was left with only two years in office to honour the commitments made in the Common Minimum Programme to provide social security and better service conditions to over 370 million unorganised workers, amend the SEZ Act and pass the Women's Reservation Bill among other things.

Briefing mediapersons at the party's National Executive Meet, CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan said the Left party was also critical of the government's handling of the Indo-US deal, pointing at the US's ''known intentions and pressure'' in this connection.

Mr Bardhan, flanked by party senior leaders D Raja and S Sudhakar Reddy, demanded the Centre to take urgent measures to reverse its economic policies to win back the support of the ''aam admi'' in view of the series of defeats in Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi Municipal Corporation polls.

On the government's celebrations to mark three years in office being a low key affair, Mr Bardhan quipped, ''May be the government has little to show as its achievement.'' On the implementaiotn of the Tribals Forest Rights Act, he said ''It is unfortunate that the rules are yet to be framed. That shows the government's non seriousness...this is very wrong... we will join the people's movement in this regard.'' ''The government, instead of indulging in self-congratulatory celebrations, should focus on free, frank and self-critical appraisal on what has happened during the last three years,'' Mr Bardhan said.

However, the veteran Communist, also asked the Centre to set up a separate Pension Fund and not allow a backdoor entry of the private managers for the government employees' hard earned money on allow them to put it in speculative market.
