DU invites admission applications from June 1
New Delhi, May 21: In an attempt to make the admission process student-friendly, the Delhi University today announced a slew of measures, including introduction of OMR forms, while inviting applications for various undergraduate courses from June 1 to 15.
Announcing the changes being introduced this year, Delhi University Vice Chancellor Deepak Pental told a news conference that the admission forms will be optical mark recognition (OMR) enabled replacing carbonless forms, a new Hindi bulletin for information launched besides the English information booklet and a University centric map will be provided.
''We want the process to be as hassle-free as possible for the students and we are hopeful the changes that we have introduced this year will help us to achieve the objective,'' he added.
Besides, the University has also introduced new related links to its website www.du.ac.in, which will carry information regarding the admission process, commencing on May 24.
Of the total 70 DU colleges 50 have been linked with the main DU website.
The University has invited applications for about 35,000 seats from June 1 to 15 for which last year it had received more tha 1.05 lakh multiple choice forms.
Seventeen centres have been established to purchase and submitting the forms. The first cut off list will be announced on June 26.
About the OMR forms, Prof Pental said besides writing the names the students will have to darken the corresponding alphabets in the table provided on the form.
''OMR has been used this year to ensure that we don't loose data like the carbonless forms last year. We want to ensure that all the particulars submitted by the students are not lost,'' he added.
The forms once filled will also have to be photocopied for the students to receive an acknowledgement.
The candidates will continue to get option of unlimited choice of courses in multiple colleges.
Cautioning the students to be ''realistic'' while filling the forms, the Vice Chancellor said the candidates must submit forms in accordance with last year's cut off marks.
''Depending on the results this year... the cut off may vary between 1 to two per cent from last year's. Students should apply Accordingly in different colleges,'' he pointed out.
For Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes candidates, the University will hold counseling sessions from June 1 to 15. ICR forms have been specially designed to ensure error free data collection. The reserved category students need to provide SC/ST certificates in their own name at the time of registeration.
Similarly, for physically challenged candidates, for whom 3 per cent seats have been reserved, registration will be open from June 1 to 15 and they must have Certificate of physical disability issued by duly notified Medical Board.
Those candidates who do not qualify for the regular under- graduate courses, the University has provided the option of non-formal stream, comprising school of open learning, external candidates' cell and non-collegiate women's education board (NCWEB).
