CM promises to resolve woes of Shimla residents

Shimla, May 21 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today promised to resolve water, parking, solid waste management and sewerage woes of the residents of Shimla town.

Addressing elections meetings at various wards of the town here, he said an ambitious gravitational water supply scheme from Pubber river in Rohru area of the district would meet the drinking water needs of the people of the town for the next 100 years.

Mr Singh said the scheme, likely to cost about Rs 680 crore, would be inaugurated on October 2, this year.

The Giri Lift Water Supply Scheme, which was under implementation, was likely to be completed by the end of this financial year, ensuring regular drinking water supply to the residents of the town, he said.

Promising to resolve the problem of parking in the state capital, the Chief Minister said his government was constructing multi-storied parking complex all around the town.

He said Rs 13.5 crore have been earmarked to be spent on Auckland House School tunnel, double lane bridge and a multi storied parking, which was being constructed near IGMC.

A sum of Rs 22.5 crore would be spent on solid waste management plant, which has being constructed near Taradevi, near here, and the existing plant near the town would be shifted to a new location where the waste would be disposed off with new technology, he said.

Mr Singh said the ambitious Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JLNURM) was being implemented to restore the fading glory of the historic town, besides, creating civic amenities and improve its roads.
