Chhattisgarh DGP Rathor died of heart attack

Raipur, May 21 (UNI) Director General of Chhattisgarh Police Om Prakash Rathor died today following a massive heart attack suffered at a goverment function in the state capital.

Mr Rathor,58, is survived by wife and two sons.

A native of Himachal Pradesh, Mr Rathor had earlier served as police advisor to the United Nations Secretary General.

Mr Rathor, an IPS officer of 1973 batch, suffered heart attack while he was at a function organised at the State Academy of Administration on the occasion of 'Anti-terrorism day''.

As he collapsed during the function, he was rushed to the Escorts Heart Care Centre in the state capital.

Later, Dr Sandeep Shrivastava told newsmen that doctors had performed re-suscitation to revive the patient after he was brought to the hospital at 1315 hours but it was unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, official sources said his body would be kept at the hospital till arrival of his wife, who is away in the United States.

Governor E S L Narasimhan, Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, Home Minister Ram Vichar Netam, leader of the opposition Mahendra Karma and senior police officials also reached the hospital.

Mr Rathor, who had earlier served in undivided Madhya Pradesh, became DGP in naxalite-affected Chhattisgarh in July 2004.
