'Shekhawat suitable candidate for presidentship'

Hardwar, May 20: BJP spokesperson and Uttarakhand in-charge Ravi Shankar Prasad said Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat is the most suitable candidate for the country's presidential post.

''Considering the past record of the working of Mr Shekhawat, he is the most suitable candidate to be the next president,'' Mr Prasad said here today after the party's two-day state executive meeting.

He said there was confusion and controversy in the UPA over Dr Kalam's successor whereas the Left had proposed External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukerjee to be the country's first citizen.

''The controversies regarding the election of the president are denigrating its status. Veteran Congress leaders N D Tiwari and Balram Jakhar have also reached Delhi in the connection.'' the saffron party leader said.

He said the Congress-led UPA government has so far made no efforts to evolve a consensus on the next occupant of the Raisina Hill.
