Varanasi, May 20 (UNI) The aged father of Additional Inspector General of Punjab Police Vivek Mishra, who committed suicide in Chandigarh last night, here today held family problems responsible for the extreme step by his son.

''He (Vivek) was tense for the last few days, owing to some family problems...may be that forced him to resort to the extreme step,'' said Virendra Nath Mishra at his Baijnatha residence here today.

He also claimed Vivek had called him an hour before allegedly shooting himself dead at the Sector-39 residence in Chandigarh.

''He sounded fully disturbed, while talking to me. I never imagined it would be the last phone call from by son,'' Mr Mishra said in a choked voice.

''We have lost our son and we cannot talk anymore about it,'' Mr Mishra said when asked about the role of a CBI probe in a Punjab-militancy period case being faced by Vivek.

Vivek's cremation is expected to take place tomorrow after his younger brother arrives from England, Mr Mishra added.
