Prasar Bharati gets broadcast rights of Military World Games

New Delhi, May 20 (UNI) Prasar Bharati has secured exclusive telecast rights of the fourth Military World Games, to be held in Hyderabad and Mumbai later this year, The Military World Games Organising Committee (MWGOC), constituted under the Defence Ministry, awarded the broadcast/telecast rights exclusively to Prasar Bharati after signing an MOU to this effect with the public broadcaster earlier this week.

The Military World Games is the biggest sporting event, only next to the Olympic Games. Over 100 countries are to participate in the event being conducted in Asia for the first time.

It is expected that around 6000 uniformed sportspersons will be participating in 15 disciplines.

As per the MoU, Prasar Bharati would telecast/broadcast the opening and closing ceremonies live on DD 1 and at least eight hours of daily live telecast of the events in its sports channel, DD Sports. All other news channels would be given some daily feed by Prasar Bharati.

The MoU also confers Prasar Bharati full rights for multiple telecast/broadcast of matches and highlights on all or any of its channels in perpetuity. Prasar Bharati would also provide free publicity in the run up to the games on all its channels, including DD-1, DD-News and DD- Sports.

Prasar Bharati would also show at least half an hour of highlights of the sports events on DD-1 and its all other channels on all days during the conduct of the Games. Similar arrangements will be made by All India Radio for the broadcast of the Games across the country.

Broadcast/Telecast of the Games on Prasar Bharati will be subject to programme exigencies of national significance.

Prasar Bharati would pay 50 per cent of the net surplus earned by it through the exclusive telecast of the Games to MWGOC.
