Oppn agitation is not solution to excess sugarcane crisis: R R Patil

Sangli, Maharashtra, May 20 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil today said the opposition's agitation in which public properties were damaged was not a solution to the crisis of excess sugarcane in the State.

He said the opposition should co-operate in the matter.

Speaking to reporters at Miraj tehsil in the district, Mr Patil said the government should make every possible effort to crush total sugarcane in the State by extending the crushing season in sugar factories further to avoid injustice to farmers.

If sugarcane remains uncrushed despite this, State government has decided to pay Rs 25,000 per hectare as compensation to the affected farmers, he said.
