'Open Sea Floating Cage', a boon for fishermen
Visakhapatnam, May 20 (UNI) Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) Principal Scientist G Syda Rao today said the 'Open Sea Floating Cage', the new method of cultivating fish in cages that float on the sea, will be a boon to the fishing community.
He told UNI that nearly 10,000 fish could be cultivated in a cage that had a diameter of 15 metre and a depth of four metre.
''Fish seed is placed in the cage and it is fed daily. We have cultivated 'Pandugappa' breed through this new method,'' he explained.
Mr Rao said the cage, which costs Rs five lakh, was designed by the CMFRI.
The cage, made out of nylon and high density poly-rubber, would enable the fishermen to save money incurred for storing fish, he added.
