NHRC disposes 155 cases in camp commission
Patna, May 20 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) has disposed off altogether 155 cases during its sitting here in the last three days.
Out of 155 cases, 30 cases of full commission and 125 cases relating to single members were disposed off. On consideration and disposal of the cases the state government made payment of Rs 7.60 lakhs to the concerned victims of violation of human rights in six cases and submitted proof of payment. This includes two cases of custodial deaths wherein Rs one lakh each was paid to the next of kin of the two deceased.
The state government further undertook to file proof of payment in four cases. Thus, a further sum of Rs 6.60 lakh is likely to be disbursed expeditiously to the victims of violation of human rights or to the next kin of the deceased.
The commmission also recommended interim relief to the tune of Rs 14.25 lakhs in ten cases.It includes eight cases of custodial deaths wherein a total amount of Rs 11.25 lakhs has been recommended to be paid to the next of kin of the deceased.
An annual meeting of NHRC was held yesterday with the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police (DGP) and other senior officials to discuss and deliberate on the concerns for protection and promotion of human rights.
After the meeting, in a press conference NHRC Chairman Justice S Rajendra Babu said that NHRC was holding camp commission and the first in the series was at Lucknow while the second was at Patna. He further informed that the first regional meeting of eastern region with the four states- West Bengal, Orissa, Jharkhand and Bihar would be held tomorrow.
Member of NHRC Justice Shivraj V Patil, Justice Y Bhaskar Rao, R S Kalha and PC Sharma were also present.
