Nayapura encounter: Karma's clean chit to cops

Raipur, May 20 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Chhattisgarh Assembly Mahendra Karma today described as baseless the reports that two innocent tribals were shot dead in a police encounter last week at Dantewada's Nayapara.

''The deceased were naxals as revealed by the Police Superintendent's investigation of complaints. They were involved in a 1998 bomb plot. I am in favour of a probe into Bijapur district's Ponjer encounter,'' he told a few reporters today.

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi alleged that innocents were killed in the Nayapura encounter. The State Human Rights Commission issued a notice to Director-General of Police O P Rathore.
